Yesterday i assembled my new Rick's starter one . It seems wonderful . After 5 stick goes up on the heat screen i tried twice , works well. But last week in our country one of my friend notified there was a problem about water infiltration on the Rick's starter motor  :430:  I hope not all of them have same problem . By the way i will be very carefully when washing my bike .

Finally getting around to fixing this.  I bought the brush kit a year ago and it's just been sitting in my garage.  I've been riding dirt bikes a lot more recently and only put about 1600 miles on the tiger last year.  I think it's time to sell it.

So, what actually is a "ricks starter" . Is it a triumph one thats been altered for sale ? Or ( more likely?) A starter off another model bike re badged?

Not wanting to deal with the hassle I called the only Triumph dealership left in the DFW area, and they said about 2 hours labor, as I already bought the brushes.  That's about $300 USD.  Those that have done it themselves, it is worth the hassle?  Or should I just take it to them and let them deal with it?

digger06 Rick starters are model specific all makes and models supplied They are manufactured in Taiwan, I have had mine fitted to my 2014 Tiger Roadie since November 2018 and it definitely seems to spin the motor up quicker than the nippon Denso/Triumph original starter motor hopefully it will last longer than the 11.5 K miles the triumph starter lasted. Fortunately I was on holiday in Florida in September 2018 and had it delivered there and brought it home in my hand luggage so only cost me 174 in total compared to 485 from triumph.

Hello all, well the Tiger has been sold before I fixed the starter so I have a brush kit for sale if anyone is interested in doing the work themselves.  It's posted up in the FS section, here is the link.

My starter is toast, and I'm looking to straight up replace it... the rub is that the replacement unit at Rick's specifies that their motor will fit engine #612713 and up; my bike's engine number is 476854. Has anyone fitted a Rick's motor to the lower engine numbers?

... however if Ricks motor has a different shaped/sized casing then who knows?  ...  as asked.
