Honda CRF1000 Africa Twin
« on: May 15, 2015, 09:52:26 AM »
I see that it is now official and it looks like we are going to be subject to a multi month tease campaign from Honda before the official launch in September or thereabouts.
I will be really interested to see how well the auto version sells and how well it works. It could be a game changer if it does work.

Better add a pic I guess.

Tinkering is what happens when you try something you dont quite know how to do, guided by whim, imagination, and curiosity.

I had the original 650 Africa twin and I had to get it imported as it was never brought into this country by Honda....great bike and built by HRC...quality.

I then got the UK 750 version and it was not a patch on the 650...ok,it had twin discs but it was asthmatic and lame compared to the 650.

I should have kept the 650,a great bike at the time, took it to Andorra trail riding and it handled it all well.
Many people I know laughed when I got an 'Adventure' styled bike and said they would never catch on here in the UK.....now look at the market.

There was nowhere to get farewells for them over here so I ended up riding to Hein Gericke in paris jut to but bits and bobs !

I will be looking at that new Honda with interest..and a stepping stool !

Looks more KTM than Honda, but should fit the bill nicely  :017:

I also had the 34" seat hieght 650cc version, a Belgian import apparently  :028:

Motor looks to be a completely different configuration though, I really liked the RC30 V-twin  :001:

Don't like the idea of an auto box (NC750)

I did have an early KTM 640 Adventurer R and I could not touch the floor with anything but the tip of my boot toe...and only by sliding sideways off the seat a bit....I managed to get that down to Andorra and back and it only fell over twice...haha,off camber parking.
Even took it on trails over there a few times.
A great bike off road but long road trips required a gel pad strapped onto the 4x2 timber seat...
In reality,I would not wish to struggle with a tall bike like that now at my age...albeit..I long to.

I am looking forward to seeing one in the flesh though.
