GPS power (no splice, one bolt, 15min easy job).

On my previous Tiger I had spliced the low beam wire to power my Tomtom GPS, and it worked flawlessly. No permanent power, only when the bike is on, as I wanted.

So first with the new one I was set to do pretty much the same, unless splicing a wire will pretty much void the warranty.

So, done some search and found in the french forum a simple and neat solution.

For this I needed just a piggy-back crimp terminal and a wire ring type connector.

The idea is to wire the GPS cable to the horn (+) and frame (-)

So first we need to unscrew the horn support from the frame, and that will be all we'll need to undo.

The target terminal is the one with the blue line, that's where we'll connect the piggy-back terminal.


The other wire will be attached directly to the frame, right there where the screw came off.


Here's one terminal in place, and one to go.


And here's the other terminal in place, actually in this photo the horn support is missing just so I could take a nice picture.


Now, can't be much simpler than this.

Thanks to Bernardbrenat and mario from the french forum (tiger800.fr) for point me this great solution.

Why not just use a PosiTap connector on the blue wire?

Just thought I'd give some feedback, this works great and it so easy to do! I made up a piggyback wire so I didn't have to do anything to the OEM connector. Just plugged in my piggyback between the OEM connector and horn using spade connectors. Easy!  :001:

Just carried out this modification tonight and it is easy as peas.  I made a two tailed cable. Two cable connect onto a single, male, spade connector which goes into the OEM connector taken off the horn.  The other end of one cable connects to the horn and the second connects to the satnav.

I posted on here about my power socket at the side of the ignition not working for some reason  :087:. Just used your solution for the USB adapter and works a treat. Reason I did the mod your way is because the adapter I have has a light on to show that it is powered up so didn't want to have it hot at all times. Took me a little longer than 15 minutes though as I'm totally a novice when it comes to anything electrical.

Enjoy your bike, even if it's a 20 year old Honda cub or the latest track tool, it's still a bike. Too many bike snobs out there for my liking.
