There is a few threads on this other way of doing it with a two holed Ram mount on the existing plate under the screen mounting bolts.  I found two here :

Another option is to use a U-bolt Ram mount on the bar in the same area.  Discussed here - page 14

Not necessarily these companies, I did find them cheaper on Ebay but can't spot them at the moment, but you get the idea.
The 2 hole Ball mount fits perfect on the alloy bracket, it looks massive in the picture but it not.

SW Motech is just perfekt http://shop.sw-motech.com/cgi-bin/cosmoshop/lshop.cgi?action=showdetail&wkid=150410187115787&ls=de&nc=1504101901-16786&rubnum=brands.triumph.tig800&artnum=GPS.11.823.10000/B&id=63&gesamt_zeilen=50Tshowrub--brands.triumph.tig800&typid=269056053
I am using this one for more than 3 years now and it works like a treat. I bought the mounting plate as a spare part for 20 Euros because I already had the ram mount ball and the ram mount 1'' extension.

Fixed it in a couple of minutes, no need to drill holes anywhere...

Like that a lot. Very tidy.
I assume it takes the 595LM.
Doesn't matter where I'm going, getting there on two wheels is always the better option.

For anyone still pondering as to how to fit a satnav (TomTom in my case) above the clocks with a Madstad screen fitted this is how I did it following the advice of others.

I drilled the front hidden Madstad mount, the one that you fit in place of the original Triumph screen mount - but beware, its really hard steel and you need a good drill.  Drill two holes and fit a 1 Ram ball fitted and with a standard 3 Ram extension the satnav goes exactly where I wanted it.

Bikes previous: NSU Quickly moped; Honda C50; Honda 305 scrambler; Yamaha RD350 (x2); Suzuki 380; Honda NX250; Harley Sportster 1200; Yamaha TDM900; Yamaha 1300 cruiser; Honda CB600F5 Hornet;
FJR1300 (x2); Triumph Explorer.

Bikes now: Triumph Tiger 800XRT - one bike less than optimum!

It, along with the brackets are stainless steel, hence why they often have the paint coming away cleanly in big section, particularly at the sharp edges as the paint isn't keyed very well to the SS - but at least it doesn't rust if the paint does come away as it is quality SS. Nearly all my paint came off (bought it secondhand) before I got around to fitting it and I simply brush coated it with (steel) anti-corrosion paint, flatted back and sprayed with Halfords cheap basic grey primer and black aerosols.  :028:
Also owned my 1979 Bonnie T140E from new!

The handlebar satnav mounts are dangerous, no question. too low and you have to take your eyes off the road for too long...?

Lots of tiger owners would disagree with this, rather a sweeping statement imo.

You are spot on, the handlebar mounts could be deadly, they are far too low. I have mine like the picture a few posts back just over the clock, perfect height.
