The Hot Cams kit bought by the OP and others goes all the way from 1.2mm to 3.5mm, which is a very wide range.  So you are definitely paying for many shim sizes in the kit you will never be able to use.

Here in Aus there is a company called Precision Shims Australia (PSA)...range you need and the no. of shims each size you need in either 0.02mm or 0.05mm increments.
:431: I can't help w/main question.
But, the Hot Cams kit is a bargain for all the shims you get (well over 100) for the price -- compared to onesy-twosey from factory, ferinstance.
I think Hot Cams only provide .05mm increments?
The T800 is quite precise when it comes to exhaust valve clearance spec. -- only a .05mm range (spec'd by Tri.) from too tight to too loose.
So, shims in .025mm increments offer considerably better options -- when adjusting T800 exhaust valves.
T800 inlet valves have double the adjust-ability range -- .1mm.

I just plan my maintenance and order when needed from brooks barn or similar,
a few quid ech and come next day, cant see the point of buying a full box, you are buying well over 50% you will never use in a home situation...
top off in the morn, order shims at dinner, comes next day at dinner time,,,

Just did my 12K valve clearance check today and all valves are in spec! Followed the Muddysump videos for all work and they are great. Much better than the manual!

Did my "48,000 mile" valve check last week. Still, they are in spec! Must be the oil I'm using...

Lots of parts need to be removed to get at the valves. Tank, airbox, valve cover, each of which have multiple things to remove. Best thing is to check the Muddysump videos. They are perfectly accurate and well commented. If you are comfortable with bolting and unbolting lots of things, it's not hard, but if you are a beginner, not recommended. Good luck!
