Front brake discs, life span.
« on: April 22, 2018, 06:52:58 PM »
Hi all.
How many miles are you getting from your front discs ?
I'm having to replace my front discs after the left hand side warped over the winter, while in hibernation.
Just over 23k miles.
I had a Tiger 1050 about 10 years ago that had its front discs replaced under warranty.
A common fault at the time dew to a bad quality batch of discs.
I've never had to change discs on any bike I've owned apart from Triumphs.
Are Triumph using poor quality discs again. Or am I just unlucky.
Dave.

Can't think for the life of me why it's warped whilst not being used  :187:

I had r/h rotor warp while on a trip at about 40k km, it was fine when I left home but noticed it after riding through heavy rain, perhaps a puddle of cold water on the hot rotor? I only replaced one, the other had no discernable wear or runout.

No idea of the earlier disc make but my 2015 XRt discs clearly have the Brembo symbol on them, so I'd say not a poor quality issue on the later Tigers.
Also owned my 1979 Bonnie T140E from new!

No idea how it warped while not in use.
Had a Volvo estate that was parked up for a few months and both front discs warped badly.

My XRT 16 plate must be doing something wrong, mine has only done 12,300 and front discs are close to needing replacing (nearly on wear limit). Only had the bike a few months so previous owner must have caned the fronts !!
