Brake Pin Woes
« on: May 14, 2018, 08:50:54 PM »
Hi
Think I know the answer to this already but hoped someone might have a tip or trick to help...

Finally got round to removing the covers for the front brake pins so I can replace the pads (and discs) and found:

Is there a trick to getting this rounded 5mm allen bolt out or is the only hope to drill the bugger? I do have a set of easy outs (no idea how to use them mind) but never used them. Any help would be really appreciated please :-)

Thank you very much for any advice anyone can give

The usual first thing I try on a rounded Hex is a Torx bit

I had to hammer a spline drive socket in, That's not a torx BTW but similar. I then bought a Stainless replacement

Thank you very much for the link, was just looking at World of Triumph and they want 9 each for them so many thanks for that :-) Will have a look in to the spline drive socket later this morning. Don't really want to drill it out unless I have no other options

Does that pin fit front and back?

Who was it that produced stainless pins with a 7 or 8mm head?  Mine must be 6 years old and are perfect.  Triumphs own pins are almost an annual replacement.

have ordered two pins so will replace both of them once I replace the pads, still debating which pads and discs to go for at the moment ;-)

EBC HH or equivalent for the pads

I replaced front discs recently with new discs from All Bike Engineering
http://www.allbikeengineering.co.uk/

They might not be in their catalogue yet but they do them.
