Maybe new??
« on: July 10, 2018, 12:15:33 PM »
Good Morning all,

Paul from Lancaster area :031: currently own a tiger sport but considering switching to a tiger 800 XCA. Had the usual sports bikes before but the best bike I owned was a Speed triple 2010, maybe not the practical all rounder but bloody good fun. I need all the 800 owners to stear me away from a Speed Triple RS and onto the 800 :001:

I like the 800 as its a more practical all year round bike, can take a pillion in comfort and more likely to ride it on a crap day as much as a good day. Speed triples turn me into a solo riding fair weather rider and on the cow crap ridden wet lake district roads I would rather be on a bike with heated grips, seats and a screen with comfort... soft git I am in my old age !!!!!
Demo day on the tiger tomorrow so fingers crossed I like it more than my TS and more than the S3 RS I had a few weeks ago

Afternoon  :016:

I went the other way, Tiger 800 for three years, Tiger Sport for about a year (till I broke it) and now the Explorer, so that's a hat trick for me  :016:

I was also tempted by the Speed Triple, or Sprint, but pillion said no based on seat size/ comfort, in truth I'd already had an Explorer as a loaner for a weekend so it was an easy choice in the end  :001:

I find the TS heavy and assume the Explorer would be ridiculously heavy. Hence looking at the 800. Only taking the wife pillion very occassionally I also thought the Explorer over kill and would end up being the guy who takes his to Starbucks only  :182: The 800s power does concern me a little but I dont think I could justify owning and explorer. I find my TS bloody uncomfortable and throttle snatchy as hell by the way
Whats your thoughts on the explorer to the 800 ?

Your reasoning for getting a T800 sound good to me.

I had a Tiger 1050 couch potato which I really liked but even lowered 25mm, I was just too much on tiptoe and dropped it a couple of times at a standstill, which is why I went for the 800. Sounds like you're in the same position (although if you swap before you've dropped the 1050 Sport, it's a bonus).

Entirely irrelevant but I am just home from Lancaster after a grand day out suppin  in that wonderful ale town.

I went thru however, on the bike last Friday ont way to Caton, Wray, Bentham and Slaidburn and I can tell you that my Tiger  loves the Trough and Tatham, Lythe fells and associated roads

You will benefit more than I with the XCA suspension over those moors so Wassail my friend!

Hi tripster.
Had a couple of 1050's.
Explorer for the last 5 years.
Now on a 800 xrx.
By far the best of the 3, for me.
Just come back from the South of France with buddies on big bmw 'so.
K series bikes.
Not a problem. You just have to think a little more.
Try and get a 800 for a day or two if possible.
I love mine. Glad I swapped.
All the best.
Tom

Hi &  :401: Had a test ride on the Explorer ( that's where I got the idea to upgrade my suspension) beautiful ride sooo smoooth, but the dead weight maneuverability too much. Also tried the 1050 Sport that my dealer had on offer, took it out to go and collect the wife, took it back after a couple of miles, no comparison to the 800 (for me).

I have just come back from a trip to Poland fully loaded (wife, panniers and top box), over 2200 miles its got all the poke required, plus........IMHO.  :417: :152: :031:
