Spongy front brake
« on: July 15, 2018, 10:57:55 AM »
My 2015 Tiger XR with abs brake lever feels spongy. I have bled the brakes but it still feels the same. Does the abs make it feel like that?

I don't know if it's the ABS, but mine is like that.  My 30 year old yams all have sharper brakes, but a good heave on the Tiger seems to do the job OK.

Did you activate the ABS when bleeding the brakes?

Likely just dirty caliper pistons, need a good clean.

My 2015 xrx brakes dont feel spongy. Might be worth giving  the calipers and pistons a good clean.

You should. Tigertool V2.5 does the trick. No guarantee it will solve your problem.

I hated the front brakes on my tiger. I came off a Ducati St4s that I could stop with 1 finger. I ordered a set of EBC sintered brake pads, swapped out the stock ones, brakes now way better, maybe not as good as my old Duc, but close. Huge improvement.

Sounds to me like there may still be air in the brake lines. With dual rotors, it's not always straightforward clearing both sides.
(Assuming you noticed the spongy feel after you bled the lines.)
Laterally unstable unless moving.

I recently bled the brakes on my 17 tiger as part of the 12k service, I did it because the brakes have felt spongy from new.

Sure enough I've improved the feel at the lever so air must have been present. however the overall performance leaves something to be desired, sintered pads will be going in when the time comes to renew.
