    ROUTE - EAST to WEST
    on: Aug 31, 2018, 01.13 pm

    Yo Dudes
Suggested route please; First and last bit sorted, but looking for suggestions to get through the middle bit (Newark to Wrexham (ish!)
Is there a semi-decent route that misses the "towns" in mid section that you middle-earth people could recommend?
    Thanks in advance....
    Cheers
    Geoff

Hello Geoff, it's good to see you back.

I have a good route across to the Midlands from Norfolk which goes via Spalding, Bourne and Melton Mowbray.  From there I would go up towards Shardlow, onto the A50 and then A525 to Wrexham but there are several alternatives.

Is that any good or are you starting from Newark?

Let me know if you want more detail.  When are you setting off from Norfolk?

    Alex

    Thanks Alex
I knew it would be too much to ask to get ALL sensible answers.......
Your route looks do-able; have you done it yourself; what's the travelling time?
I'm leaving from Gt Yarmouth, but don't know whether it will be Thursday or Friday. If I travel Thursday I will stay over night at my mum's; she's in North Wales, or possibly Friday and I'll just call in for a cuppa...., still undecided.
    Thanks again
    Geoff

Norwich to Melton Mowbray is about 2 1/2 to 3 hours depending on traffic and flexibility of right wrist. I usually take the B1145 to Kingís Lynn - more fun than the A47. From Bourne to Melton is a great road.
Melton to Wrexham is a couple of hours - I havenít done that recently but the roads are decent.

Not sure when Iím leaving myself so letís keep in touch.

    Route looks pretty good.
I've got three options (I think!)
    1. Leave on Thursday morning, not too early, and stay overnight at my mother's; then it's a short hop to Betws-y-Coed on Friday afternoon.
    2. Leave at "Stupid o'clock" on Friday morning, and detour to mum's for a cuppa, then on to B-y-C.
    3. Leave at "Not-so-Stupid o'clock", but still early on Friday, give mother a miss, and drop down into Llangollen, not Wrexham, and go straight to B-y-C.
    ......, decisions, decisions.
Have you made your plans yet?
I'll try to let you know what I'm doing as soon as I can.

Know what ya mean Rtwo; my plan is to stop on the return trip anyway, but I don't know what her plans are, or where she'll be when I'm on the way up.

    Hi Alex
I'm setting off at about 5:30/6:00 ish tomorrow morning; I'll be taking a detour to my mum's place for a couple of hours, still not sure which route to take, but I think it will be the boring route to Newark...
I'll be taking it very easy; got a bit of a problem with my right shoulder, don't know what's going on but it keeps giving sharp jabs of pain just to remind me that all's not well; could be growing pains......, except I'm 64 and should have finished by now.
Have you decided what you're doing; don't mind if we travel together, but I think it will quite sedate.
Whatever happens, I'll see you in the bar tomorrow night.
    Cheers
    Geoff
