Test drove one with shift assist. great bike, sportier than XCA. I would have bought one but at my budget they were still too expensive.

Tracer is a good option - build quality not of BMW standard (no surprises)

Bonneville?

Enjoy the ride, it has some great reviews.
I couldn't make it work, the ergo was all wrong for me but it's a nice bike, that's for sure

why dont you play the game. go to dealeers, test ride their bikes.
find a route that encomapsses the sort of roads you want to rider or like to ride, whatever, so you cna get a feel of how different bikes seem on a familiar piece of road.

asking what is the best 800 rival is an odd thing to ask. different things for different folks. what is right for you is probably nto right for someone else.

just mentioning the Bonneville in this thread make me think you don't actually know what it is you want. Ive not ridden a new 900 Boneville, ridden a few 800's as loan rides when my bike is being serviced and it just doesnt' do it for me. its not a competitor to the Tigers. Frankly I thik you will find few competitor bikes in any manufacturers range (eg if you fancy a street triple, barring the speed triple there isn't going to be much else in Triumphs range that is a competitor, yes there arr other bikes but not really competitors.

if you want to pose then a Bonny, or any of Triumphs new so called modern classics might do, a Guzzi might do.

Since Enfield upped their act I don't think there are many truly awful bikes out there. The Japanese manufacturers are sometimes accused of being a bit boring but capable. Are you buying a bike to ride or to yak about.

So find out who your local dealers are go talk to them be honest, and they wont care if you ride 1, 2,10 bikes on demos. be dishonest and fairly soon they will rate you as a carpet crusher... just out to waste their time.

right now the the best XRT rivals are those in white or blue ( I draw the line at  riding a bike that is accountant grey), but your choices / prefernces may be different.

Yup, the OP got a "Tracer 900."

I was going to suggest the KTM 790 but don't know if it's out yet.

Pardon me now, but I gotta go look at what a "Tracer 900" is.  :112:

AHA! It's a Yamaha!
