Some good suggestions there, healdem.
From what I've seen of the sat nav on the TFT, it's going to be a simple turn by turn display at the bottom right; it won't be a full map.

Yes , that's what I take from the email I got from my Triumph dealer, I think I'll stick with my existing sat nav for routing and navigation..

I have no way of finding out but perhaps the tyre pressure monitoring uses bluetooth, in which case the connectivity part is already there?

No, TPMS signals are transmitted at 433MHz or 315MHz
Bluetooth is between 2.402 GHz and 2.480 GHz

KTM has the same function. Also for the 2017 models at no extra cost. You only have to buy the MY RIDE app for 8 pounds.
But the KTM models probably already have a Bluetooth module buidin.
I'm very curieus how much Triumph will charge us for this new function..

These features are rapidly becoming standard on bikes equipped with TFT screens which will pretty well be all bikes within a year or two.
Ducati have it on the Multistrada range and 2019 Scramblers, BMW have it on many bikes, HD and Indian have it, KTM as mentioned has it, Moto Guzzi has in on the new 2019 V85TT and have said will will become standard across the range.
The difference afaik is the Triumph are the first to do it as a retrofit. All the other manufacturers' bikes either have it or they don't. Kudos to Triumph for offering the retrofit as long as it is sensibly priced.

It was a retrofit on the 1290 KTMs, albeit just a FOC firmware update

We also have to buy a Bluetooth module. Normally that doesn't have to be expensive but you'll never know with Triumph..

You need that if you want the new functions on your tft dashboard. Such as turn by turn navigation on your dashboard. Or managing your music. The Bluetooth module connects your dashboard with your mobile phone. It gets his information from your phone.
If you don't want these new functions than you also don't need the Bluetooth module..

..which makes the bitter twisted warped cynic think that the display is probably a generic one, made for bikes and Triumph are late to the idea of phone integration.
