Pardon my stupidity but ... why would i want this bluetooth thingy?

To control the music on your phone via the joystick or to accept or reject calls via the joystick, motorcycle system needs some means/connection to your phone. This connection is achieved via Bluetooth.

Of course they don't make the TFT screen. Everything is specialised these days and all manufacturers like Triumph do largely is assemble components made by third parties that have been modified to the manufacturers spec. Triumph don't make the braking system or ABS, they don't make the ECU, they don't make the fuel injection, they don't make the battery, starter motor assembly, suspension, tyres, switches, headlight and tail light assemblies, indicators or a host of other parts on each bike. In the old days Triumph never made the Smiths speedos or the Lucas electrics or the Amal carburettors. Nothing has changed really there are just more individual parts from more companies.

I wonder if Triumph UK will notify the dealers in Australia that the TFT upgrade will be available, as I am keen to have it on my XCA 800 due to being able to connect the phone to the screen and use the toggle buttons to accept or reject calls.

Here in the Netherlands there was a pressrelease.
Yes, it is also for the 2018 models with a tftscreen.
You have to buy a Bluetooth module and the software must be updated.
Prices will be released in januari and you can buy it in late spring.

January release of prices changed now to 'late February/early March' statement. Also availability header states that it will 'on the latter part of 2019'.

Has anyone seen any update on this?  I'd be keen to know what the damage would be before I consider other options.  I'm mainly looking at it for managing my GoPro but the other features are nice to haves too.

I called a few Triumph dealers here in the Netherlands and I was told that there was a problem with a thirt party about licenses.
And that they were told that the Bluetooth module and software update would cost around 250. And that they expect and hope that everything will be available at the end of the year.. For me it is not interesting any more if 250 is really the price.

It will not surprise me if that is the price. The story I have heard in Australia is "expensive" - north of AUD$400.00 for the BT module fitting and the firmware upgrade.

Wow, those prices are harsh.  I have Street RS that I'd get tweaked too so that rather messes with that master plan.  Hmm bugger.
