Yep, that was part of my point. The market in China is so big companies making products just for the Chinese market out manufacture those for western markets.

If you don't mind a bit of spannering, have you thought of a pre-unit RE Bullet? 1000 - 1500 should get you a reasonable one with low depreciation. When you get it, submit it to "stress testing", fix whatever goes wrong, and it should be fairly reliable after that.

The new BMW F750/850 engine is made there.  I agree, China can make as good quality as anyone else if the spec is defined and the partner/factory trustworthy. Perhaps see them as the new Japanese and look what they eventually did to the British bike industry.  Result was some excellent quality machines that we all now enjoy.

I would wonder about the spares situation before I bought anything other than mainstream. Getting spares for Italian bikes is bad enough.

Make a list of consumables & check availability. eg cables, brakes, carb kit, calliper kits, wheel bearings, swing arm bearings/bushes, headstock bearings.

Chinese motorcycle parts are more ready available than most mainstream manufactures!

https://www.chinesemotorcyclepartsonline.co.uk/

And a lot cheaper.

They don't list the Sinnis Retrostar 250 that the OP is looking at buying.

Probably because they are an English company??

If I Remember right they buy the parts and assemble them here.

They have their own parts on their website.

Plus they recommend https://www.motorcyclepartswarehouse.co.uk/
