XRt cuts out
« on: December 13, 2018, 08:00:16 PM »
Has anyone else experienced their bike cutting out whilst changing down approaching a set of lights or a roundabout?

Its happened in both situations to me while getting the 500 miles in for the initial service. I will obviously mention this when I take it in. Probably needs a software update/remap.  :087:

just before my 500 mile service (2018 XR) mine cut out 3 times changing from 3rd to 2nd, told dealer at service, they found nothing wrong, In Switzerland 2 weeks ago it happened again, twice going from 3rd to 2nd again, also cut out once at tickover, will be taking it in next week....see what they say

and when I think back, on a ride on their demo bike it cut out going down 3rd to 2nd, I just thought it was me fluffing a gearchange
there is another post on here somewhere about someone with similar issue...

It was a gen 2 issue, but surprised some gen 3 owners have had the same issue ...

Yes. Twice now on a 2018 XCX under 1000km odo. Happened while going less than 40km/hr and shifting from 4th to 3rd --the engine abruptly cut out.
Took it to the dealer who checked to make sure it has the latest ECU map but couldn't find any fault.
If enough of us report this to Triumph as a warranty issue ( they won't not admit it but ) hopefully they will research it and get resolution. There are a few other posts on this topic on the forum. E.g.---

Yes, my 2018 Xrx cut out several times whilst on holiday when new and just after the break in service, have not been to the dealer yet since but hoping it was just a combination of new tight engine and a lean mix on rolled off throttle.
Bike has 3000mls on now and will bring it up with the dealer if it persists...

Hope you're right about being a new engine.  To date, the forum posts I have read on this topic all report occurrence prior to first service. I haven't read any who report a re-occurrence after about 1000 km. Time will tell.

I had exactly the same symptoms.  I read somewhere that adjusting the clutch lever to reduce free play seemed to work.  I have changed my levers for shorty type and in doing so I adjusted/reduced cable free play and that seemed to work for me  SO FAR.

Worth a try!

update on this

dealer picked my bike up yesterday, rang me later in the day to say they found faulty Inlet air temperature sensor, they fitted new one and delivered bike back to me today, will try it out over next couple of days and report back....

I have a 2018 (67 plate) XRT which has done 1800 miles. I have never had it cut out but my bike was one of the launch bikes so maybe this had special attention from Triumph  :084:
