Metzeler Tourance Next 110/80 R 19
« on: January 16, 2019, 10:09:16 PM »
Is anyone running the Metzeler Tourance Next 110/80 R 19 radial tyre in place of the bias-belted 100/90?
I hate the OEM 100/90 tyre, as it is rubbish over broken roads, uneven surfaces, and white lines - I find it skittish and unsettling.
My original plan was to ditch the Tourance Nexts completely, and go with Roadtec 01s.
The question is: will I be throwing out the baby with the bath water?
That is, is the the Tourance Next rear tyre good, and does the problem lie fairly and squarely with the front?
If you're running the front radial, let me know of your experience.

I wouldn't pay for a Next. They are sort of okay as OEM but they are not good enough to actually pay for IMO.
Put a decent 110/80-19 radial on the front and it will transform the bike in a good way. To me there are no negatives in doing it.

My front of choice is the Avon Trailrider but I want something with at least a bit of dirt road ability.

Give a man a fish and he'll demand chips, a six pack of stella, 20 fags and a scratch card to go with it. Make him do some work for his fish. He'll aporeciate it more.

Bridgestone T30 Evos for me. Didn't want to pay the 33% price premium for Roadtecs or PRs, and the T30s work well.
Tiger 800 XRx, Scrambler, SpeedTona, Speed Dent
Gone but not forgotten: Tiger 1050, Bonneville SE, Sprint ST 955i, Trophy 4, Sprint 900, Daytona 900, Tiger 900

Thanks for all the great replies, folks.
Definitely not going for the Metzeler radial now.
I'll get a road-only tyre for the front, and try it with the Tourance Next rear.
But which one? Decision, decisions...
If that works out, I'll run that combo until the rear squares off, and then get a rear tyre to match the front.

Based on research and the number of votes here, I've gone for a Michelin Road 5 Trail.
I'm looking forward to actually having some grip.
