Great idea to use bits of tubing to copy a shouldered screw. I've done similar using plastic spacers. Just finding the right sizes, innit.

Lateral thinking is usually useful.
Old pens provide plastic tubes.
Epoxy putty moulded around the neck of the bolt -- another solution. No garage is complete without a pack of Milliput.

Yes, effectively a screw with integral (narrow) flat washer not a shoulder.
Also owned my 1979 Bonnie T140E from new!
