Insurance on the day of handover of old part exchange bike
« on: February 25, 2019, 07:23:18 PM »
I called Hastings Direct to get a quote and arrange insurance for a new Z900RS (to keep T800 company) which I collect on Saturday.  Having spent 45mins on hold and 10 mins going through policy details, I was then told that they couldn't make the policy change in advance for a specific time other than midnight.

So if I needed to ride my PX bike to the dealers on the day of collection, I'd have to phone them back on the day and make the policy changes over the phone from the dealership.

That seems ludicrous to me.  Has anyone else had a similar experience of this?

I've done it just like that a few times, it's easy and painless - never tried it with Hastings so YMMV

Many dealers now give you a 7 day insurance on new vehicles, done it with my last bike & car. Gives a bit of breathing space.

i am sure my policy allows both to be covereed for one day. Or maybe that was the car.

Either way, poor show there.

Insurance in the UK seems to be an absolute nightmare. What is wrong with the industry there?
Here you simply ring your insurance company and say Im picking up bike X on Y day and you are covered. You then get 14 days from the day the policy starts to pay the bill and finalise the agreement.

We have too many cretins here who abused the system, and insurance companies cracked down.

would be similar here with a straightforward new bike policy or a swap, new policy would start immediately, but the OP is talking about insuring with a swap on the same day, its awkward to cover 2 bikes on the overlap period..(unless you ring from the dealers as it happens)..which is why my ins co give you 24 hrs on both bikes, some may give you more....seems the OP's Ins co is not as obliging :211:
