Replacing old type silencer (2014) with new type (2018)
« on: March 22, 2019, 07:42:33 PM »
So this isn't typical direction when you change silencers.
I've recently found on ebay almost new silencer that was taken of Tiger 800 2018.

Bought it because it is almost new and very clean. Additionally it's smaller/lighter than the old one.

I removed the old one to find out that I will need new gasket because
I can't remove the old gasket from the pipe without seriously damaging it.

Found the part on ebay. Ordered it. Now I have to be patient.

My question is if there is any special technique to fit that new gasket?
I don't want to damage it accidentally straight away.

And here's how those two silencers look next to each other:

I did it. Quite easy swap when you have all required parts.
I've put gasket into the wider pipe and then fitted silencer with its pipe.
It's quite tight so I spent couple minutes to achieve expected result.

Now it not only looks better, it also sounds better.
The sound is lower and deeper, not louder though.
I didn't expect sound improvement, so a nice surprise.

All in all I am more than happy with this reasonable cheap upgrade:
~40GBP for almost new genuine Tiger 800 2018 silencer + ~12GBP for gasket

Here is short video presenting the look and the sound:

+1 on good post Jacq.  You've got me thinking about getting a lighter 2018 one for my '17 XRT now too.  Naughty Jacq!

Small update after +/- 900 miles.

It is noticable difference in the sound. In plus ;)

It makes "popping" noise on deceleration.. but map update solves that.

You can use Arrow map (and sacrifice your MPG) or you can use "hybrid" map
from the link below and "expect good fuel economy mixed with great performance while riding aggressively":

I've just came back from Cornwall round trip (circa 800miles) and I had smile on all those twisties down there ;)

May I ask where you got the gasket from Jacq ? I had a look on eBay and couldn't find any at all ....
Perhaps I was using the wrong search words !

the ebay auction title is:
"GENUINE TRIUMPH DAYTONA TIGER SPEED STREET TRIPLE SPRINT EXHAUST HEADER GASKET"
(I am not posting direct ebay link as it is not my auction)

the product number is:
T2202115

And it looks like this:

I hope it is helpful :)
