Recommend a place to stay near the Channel Tunnel
« on: April 12, 2019, 05:14:42 PM »
Travelling to France in June from Dublin.  I will taking the early morning ferry to Holyhead and will be meeting friends the morning after at the Tunnel.  Can anyone recommend a good place to overnight within an hour of the Tunnel?  Premier Inn type hotel would be fine near to a few bars or restaurants.  Secure parking for the XC would be a nice.

Tinkering is what happens when you try something you dont quite know how to do, guided by whim, imagination, and curiosity.

We stayed here last year before a le mans trip. Good food and chalet type rooms which we could park the bikes on the patio outside the door. 20 mins from the terminal.

Try and avoid the M20 if possible. Maybe stay somewhere along the A20 (Lenham is a nice village) or maybe Canterbury, worth a look round the town if you have the time. The A252 between Challock and Chilham is a must ride road if you do end up in Canterbury. There are a few pubs along that way that may offer accommodation. The M20 is a real nightmare with the road works and Opp-Brock, 50mph average speed cameras most of the way down from the M25 and lots of night closures. Be warned you cant get on the M20 at Leeds (j8) and if you get in the wrong lane prior to j8 you could end up doing 30MPH with avg cams for the whole section between J8 and J9 (12+miles).. Have a safe trip. :)

Thanks all, particularly nobsta for your detailed post.  Think I will take the opportunity to do the tourist thing in Canterbury based on your advice.
