old cruiser rider, new ADV rider!
« on: April 13, 2019, 04:56:44 PM »
Good morning!  Just purchased my first ever ADV motorcycle.  After about a decade of riding nothing but cruisers (Harley Davidson, Yamaha, Honda, and Victory), I've decided to take it a bit more off-road like; be a bit more adventurous.

After looking (lurking?) around the web and cycletrader.com, I came across a used but fully loaded and ready 2015 Tiger 800 XCX with less than 3200 miles on the clock.  The guy seemed serious, and he just didn't have any time to ride the thing.   So after hours of setting up a timeline and getting cash ready, I pulled the trigger and drove the 90 miles to go take my first peek at this bad girl.

It was at that moment that I fell in love.  Sure, I checked her over, made sure she was in good riding condition, ensured saftey inspections passed, but honestly, I was smitten with the black beauty.  I handed over my cash and rode her home the 90 miles.  She was a blast.  Strong engine (but not so crazy that she felt like a sport bike) kept up with traffic on the highway without issue, and agile enough to really wrap around the twisties without breaking a sweat or grinding pegs.  Yep, she is mine.  I'm falling head over heels for this long-legged beauty.

Today, I took her out on some paths around the area that led into some dirt/gravel that I would have never thought of taking my low-slung Victory Magnum.  Sure, the big Vic is fun cruising the long roads and showing off, but sometimes a guy's just got to get DIRTY!  And being able to ride in comfort to those places?  Yeah, I'm sold.  If I had known about ADV bikes years ago, I don't think I would have ever ridden a cruiser.

I think it's time to hang up the leathers for good.

Anyone want to buy a 2015 Magnum with low miles?  She's well maintained and garage cared.  Just needs a good home with another rider now! LOL.
