Rebound Damping Adjuster Help???
« on: May 14, 2019, 06:21:16 PM »
My bike is a 2016 Triumph Tiger 800 XCX

The Rebound Damping Adjuster Screw (shown in picture) keeps turning and will not seat.

So I went to adjust the rear suspension this morning, and turned the Rebound Damping Adjuster Screw clockwise to seat it before adjusting it to a single rider with luggage (1 turn counter clockwise).

However when I was rotating the screw clockwise to seat it in the closed position I got about 2 turns when all of a sudden it went loose and then just kept turning with out seating.  Just like when an ordinary screw strips.

I tried rotating the adjuster screw in both directions and nothing.  It just keeps turning.
Is there anything can be done about this without taking off the entire shock and or replacing the shock?

Thanks.
Jim.

Can't help you with the screw but you only really need to adjust that if the bike is moving about too much.

Certainly seems that something is broken, either the screw or the thread. Not an easy fix. You would have to have the shock removed and examined.
Assuming the setting is close to where you had it set previously, it is still in a good range. I would just leave it and ride as is. Save it for a winter project when the bike is not being used.
Laterally unstable unless moving.

Chuckxc you are probably correct.  However I would like to see if anyone else has ever had the same issue, and I would like to know what they did about it to correct the problem.
Although the screw continues to turn I'm willing to bet that the actual adjustment setting is stuck in the fully closed or hard dampening position.

Jim, did you ever get this sorted? I think my bike has the same problem.

I feel I've got the same issue. The bolt keeps turning and is even pushed out (by the oil pressure?).

I've got mine booked in with a WP specialist on June 9th to get uprated springs and revalving, he said he can fix the adjuster too. I'll let you know how big a job it is. Hes a busy guy so I wont have the bike for 2 weeks. It will be late June before I update.

Thanks MomadLad.
Hope things work out ok.  Please do post an update after the work is done.  that would be great.  I've been riding on the bike with the rear shock as is for a year now and all is ok.  but I would like to resolve this issue at some point.  Thanks.
