First Reccy completed in the damp Welsh drizzle on the weekend. Tom, Martin and I ventured out to tackle the sheep, Buzzards, dogs and pheasants in order to dissect the standing water like the Red Sea and to make tracks through wet leaves and post flood silt and mud deposits. Not forgetting the countless ice-rink effect cattle grids that litter the route.

It was fab; well, apart from the planned morning coffee stop being shut and the planned afternoon coffee stop closed early for their annual AGM!!

All in all - a huge sigh of relief that the ride works! Bring on May!!

Hi guys,

need some advice for my journey to and from the megameet. I intend to take the Hoek van Holland - Harwich ferry for getting to and back from the UK, it is an overnight ferry and in general it is reasonably priced. Did so last year after the Meet and I had a couple of wonderful days with Healdem, Jimmy and his brother from another mother in Wales after the Meet. We split in Aberystwyth and I went down through Wales stayed overnight in the Cotswolds which was all very good. On the final day on the way down to the ferry I ended up with London rush hour traffic so country roads were blocked, changing onto the motorway did not help, so it was not really pleasant. I need help to avoid that next year.

My general idea is to go down to Devon after the Meet, check on old friends living in the Tiverton area, stay overnight somewhere there and then make my way to the ferry in two day with one overnight stop.

Any suggestions? Going through the Cotswolds again and stay there for a night is not a bad idea, but how do I find a good route to Harwich without being bothered with traffic that much.

If you are going Devon way then talk to Richard (T800XC), Ian (Rozzer)  Steve (Stevie.P) or any of the SW 'mob's. Heck they may even be persuaded to take you on the (was it 2014) Devon megameet route.

I'd certainly be up for accompanying Uli if available, as like Rozzer I'm now retired. (IMO) Richard is probably the main man for a route plan (unless a mystery tour required  :164: ) and Exmoor, Lymton/Lynmouth and area has some nice rides for a short day or two explore.  Richard obviously has work commitments but even if unavailable I'm sure we can work something out, even though the Devon Megameet was before my time, knowing how organised Richard is I wouldn't be surprised if he said he still had those ride route files archived somewhere on his computer.  :017:

Excuse time  :164: ... 4 days without Internet access and 7hr drive home this afternoon I was on forum fasttrack catchup this evening and admittedly didn't think to try looking back at the 2014 meet folder.  :148:

Thanks guys I appreciate the offers to take me down to Devon, but that is not really the problem: I have been there several times by car and after the Megameet 2018 I went down by bike and had a very nice tour there. Lynmouth, Exmoor, Ilfracombe and the like...

My main problem is how to avoid traffic on my way back from Devon or other parts in the South-West to the ferry in Harwich. In 2019 I ended up in massive traffic coming from the Cotswolds. Any idea how to bypass this?

I have a route which may help but it will be a couple of days before I get a chance to look for it on the laptop. Watch this space.

Merry Christmas.   :031:
