High Mileage issues around 100k
« on: June 06, 2019, 07:00:42 AM »
As my 2011XC is almost hitting 100000km`s, i was wondering what issues owners have found with bikes of this mileage?

Up to now the commonly reported issues are pretty much all i have dealt with, i.e replace starter at 60k, broken shifter pin at 55k, new rear shock(hyper-pro) at 90k, starter solenoid at 75k. Otherwise everything else has been standard maintenance items. Other than the typical front end bounce the bike still rides absolutely fine and reliable.

Has anyone needed to do work inside the motor like cams, cam chains, bearings etc?  Clutch is still original. The bike is pretty much worthless with this mileage so any money spent would not be recovered on resale. Just don't want to get caught out as i do a lot of longer trips, 5k at a time.

Anything i should be looking out for? Thanks in advance.

Congratulations, you've made it to the over-100k km club with the usual gremlins but nothing serious. My 2012 is well past that and going fine. I've had some of the same hassles, starter motor(X2), shifter pin, the usuals-sprockets, chains but so-far-so-good. Cam shims, cam chain  still ok, clutch fine. Always kept regular  oil changes and clean filters.
Gave it to my son, good for another 100k +.

Laterally unstable unless moving.

Thanks guys. Glad to hear there are high mileage bikes out there that are still running with no major mechanical issues. Am definitely going to keep taking the bike on long trips. As previously said, as long as the basic maintenance is kept up, the bike should be good for at least another 50k.

I'm only at 77k km but fairly minimal, I seem to be losing more oil than I like but that's manageable. And I've had to do the fork seals twice but I think the second time was because of bad workmanship the first time.  Chain lasted 50k km and other than a battery I haven't had to do much.

Not at 100k just yet but not far off.
Replaced all discs - front worn and rear warped.
Shifter pin.
Err and that's it
Stupid is as stupid does.

97K km and turn signal stems broken, Left hand switch cube wiring harness developed a short. The rest reasonable wear and tear including fork seals. So  :002: camper.

Just passed the 100,000km  Mark on a trip to arctic circle.
Only issue has been a new battery before the trip.   Had an incident where the front brake seems to have locked on so probably have to change the discs and newish pads....
So, what is the average lifespan of a pair of front discs or rotors?   Clive Wood was surprised that they are still the original ones at 60,000miles
Cheers Steve
