Brugge parking
« on: August 11, 2019, 03:55:03 PM »
:084:My wife and I are planning to stay in Brugge the Hotel Central on the Markt ( the big plaza right in the centre )and looking on google street view can see a couple of scooters parked and was wondering if it really is OK to park there. Has anyone parked overnight there without any traffic warden interference.

They use the large market square for, err markets and pony & trap rides (worth a trip on one), don't know about overnight parking, it's heavily restricted and largely pedestrianised.

See : https://www.visitbruges.be/parking-3

As it says, best to check with your hotel  :028:

I stay here when in Bruges, 200 mtrs from the square, with own parking, though more expensive.

I've been a couple of times and never had any issue parking, not that I took much notice of what the regs may be  :001:

IME - you'll usually be OK on a bike in any Euro city as long as it's well out of the way
Tinkering is what happens when you try something you dont quite know how to do, guided by whim, imagination, and curiosity.

Tammyboy, I'm afraid you can't enter the pedestrian zone in the Market Place by bike...
Maybe you can contact the hotel to ask for a safe parking?
Or change hotel?

Enjoy Bruges!

I bow to a local's superior knowledge, but I've parked overnight amongst the bicycles there on a few occasions over the years. When I've arrived in the rain, I've parked in the underground carpark below.

Thanks for all the comments regarding Brugges parking and in particular Dilbert for his amazingly insightful one concerning markets,we will perhaps consider alternatives.

My brother-in-law lived and worked in Brussels and when we went to visit he took us to Bruges and Ghent, can't for the life of me remember where we parked, but it wasn't in the main square, where I live we have a market square filled with a mini-roundabout  :138:

Plain logic isn't always that logical  :191:

Next decision Grimbergen, Leffe, or Afligem  :001:

Having just returned from our long weekend to Brugge I can confirm that we stopped in The Ibis Brugge Centrum an easy walk to the Markt and all points of interest and there is some unofficial bike parking on the plaza right outside the hotel entrance with a number of bikers taking advantage of it
