Portugal - sugesting route
« on: November 11, 2019, 10:25:26 PM »
Hi Tigers,

I am happy to see that there are a lot of members in this forum that are planing a trip to Portugal. I have a suggestion for you, why not cross the mitical EN2, wich means National Road 2? It links Chaves, a town in the north of Portugal to Faro, the capital of Algarve. There are 738,5 Km from one point to the other. Its a kind of Route 66 Portuguese version. You can find more information here https://www.facebook.com/Rotaen2/ specialy concerning to support. This road crosses portugal in the center while EN1 crosses Portugal in the litoral side. Hope you like it.

I took grizzlybear's advice and grabbed some of the "relaxed" gpx files from the www.ride.co.uk website

Her's my tweaked planned route:-

It's a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll

Great tour... but not so relaxing.. As you are planing to begin in San Sebastian, maybe the best mounth to do it would be June. You will not have rain in the north of Spain and the temperature in Portugal is very pleasant. Roads are very calm in this part of the year. July and specialy August are the worst months to do it for me, because  the weather is unconfortable to ride. Its too hot in that area.
Every year there is an event called "Portugal ls a ls", wich is an idiomatic expression like Portugal from one side to the other, and its a great event for mototourism suported by FIM. You can check more info in here: http://www.les-a-les.com/Events/PT_LAL.

Thanks for the feedback, I am committed to the ferry bookings and holidays from work so I'm definitely going 11 to 20 July so will expect to get nice and hot on the Mk1 Tiger! :)
