6000 mile service
« on: December 22, 2019, 12:23:50 PM »
Hi all,

had my six month old tiger 800 XRT booked in for its 6000 mile service (5458 actually) I do around 1000 miles per month riding every week day Monday to Friday, two days before the service the bike wouldn't start, it was turning over OK but not firing up, so they came and collected it, they said they changed the fuel as it was contaminated and they changed the plugs and now it's OK.

My question is, I fill up at the same Shell garage every time, the tank had 1/3 fuel left in it, so I used 3/4 without a problem, do you guys think it was the fuel?

by the way 6000 mile service, getting the bike going (one hour labour) plus new plugs 430 is this the norm or expensive? they also changed the rear wheel bearings under warranty as they said they had seized up? I oil the chain every week and the rear wheel, seemed free enough to me.

I bought a new tiger xrx the dealer couldnt get it started for days! They put it down to fuel. Changed fuel and it was ok, they got the fuel from the same place they fill up all there bikes. How strange is that!

This is the very reason I like to do my own maintenance.  Seems like dealerships in general must have a license to steal from their customers.

Oil, filter & sump washer = 40. The BS is free.

The oil will be top spec, the filter will be a new one. Ha.

Plugs? Sure'n they'll be fine for 12k. If you want to look at your plugs at 6k, that's fine. Lot of stuff in the spec that is just a money spinner for the dealer & stuff we do ongoing as routine maintenance.

Ford spec for plugs is 100k miles for a 1.5Turbo
