Paddock Stand or What ?
« on: May 15, 2020, 12:59:19 PM »
Hi people

I have the 2013 800 ABS roadie without a centre stand. My ABBA stand seems like hard work having spoken to Abba & talk of a bit of this & that & some wooden block etc ???

My ole faithful paddock stand just will not do the job either.

I have a half meter length of threaded bar that i was going to slide all the way through the rear spindle & into the arms of my old paddock stand & give that a whirl.

Has anyone got picks of theirs with the ABBA set up to see if its work investing in the extra bits for that.

I love the Abba stand. Can't fault it.

But it's a real pain in the arse to use on the Tiger.
You have to piss about and then use zip ties to hold the foot pegs out of the way.

I bought a centre stand in the end and wouldn't be without it now.
Worth every penny.

Keep the Abba stand for other bikes, it's too much hassle on the Tiger.

Is the ABBA stand issue with the pegs only found with the XC?  I ask because I have an XRT with lowered suspension and haven't needed to tie back the pegs at all. In fact I don't even need the wood.

I love the ABBA stand and would certainly recommend it to anyone in a similar bike/setup to me. Easy, quick and stable, and you only need a square of wood about 3/4" thick to run it up on - hardly rocket science.

Incidentally I do have a centre stand but it's that that is too much of a pfaff, especially with the lower suspension - it's now a two man job!!

Not sure if it's just XC.

Abba said when I bought the bits to fit my bike I needed to tie the legs back and sent me some reusable ties.

Too much messing around.

The centre stand is always with you and you don't risk breaking your neck tripping over it in the garage.

I use a bungee on my foot pegs to hold them up, the wood is used under the abba stand so it lifts the bike high enough. I find its ok in use, but I havent got a centre stand as an option.

Why's it not an option?

Surely a shorter version of the stand could be made. I bet there's a million welders out there who could cut the bit out and re-weld it so it's strong enough.

I think theres ground clearance issues whilst cornering.

That's a right bugger then. Badly thought out. Should have been a design where the shorter version could be placed in a different part of the bike.
