2016 XRT Intermittent Starting.
« on: May 27, 2020, 06:00:03 PM »
Did 100 miles yesterday, parked up.bout 20 minutes went to start again-had the flicking of the dials but no priming sound of fuel pump.etc After a little thought put it on centre stand and it started. Put it down to a bit of dirt in the side stand switch. Rode home stopping 3 times in all. Bike on side stand each time and it started straight away. Parked up at home switched off cup of tea , went to put away-no start.Put bike on centre stand , still no start. After a wait started again and put away. Problem appears to be temperature related. Started from cold this morning. Had it up to operating temperature several times today on centre stand.Bike not moved at all.  Refuses until you wait 30 minutes plus, almost as if its too warm to start. Have disconnected battery, used the second key. still same symptoms. Any help/guidance much appreciated. Many Thanks.

These switches can all prevent starter solenoid closing: clutch switch, side stand sw.  and/or neutral sw., kill sw., Also, starter solenoid itself and high current 12v connections between battery and starter.
If you have a voltmeter, check for 12v working your way backwards from starter motor, then starter solenoid etc Sometimes an intermittent problem like this  is caused by poor connection at battery or starter motor high current connections.
