Hmmm - sand on chain/in bearings etc - wouldnt be in a hurry to do that!

You’re right. But at 80k miles, bearings will need to be replaced soon anyway. I have a new set of sprockets and chain waiting when I get home. Besides, having an old bike (that’s literally worth nothing anymore) is good to have around to do stuff like this.
