North of England roads and sight seeing suggestions wanted
«

As title, i'm planning a trip from 9th July up through the Peak District, Lake District up to Northumberland and back down the East coast through Lincolnshire.
I'm a bit stuck on places to visit to break the riding up and if anyone has any roads that can't be missed i'd be grateful for suggestions on them too.
Cheers

have a look at the various mega/mini meet threads
There's been rides in Derbyshire, North Yorks, West Yorkshire, Northumberland and the lake district. lots of roads.
as to places to visit to break up the riding what do YOU expect
is it a 5 minute quick glimpse of the scenery and move on
is it a place to eat (Matlock Bath, Yondermans (Wardlow Mires),
is it a place to gawp at other bikes or chat to other riders (Matlock Bath, Devils Bridge Kirby Longsdale)
is it a place to stay
...campsites... dont do camp sites personally too old ;)
...B&B.. plenty of B&B's in the National Parks.. but be wary that many places demand a minimum stay of 2 days
is it a kulture vulture tour so places like Chatsworth House, Castle Howard are on the intinery
is it a kulture vulture tour take 2, musuem,s art galleries and the like. plenty to see in Manchester, York & Leeds
how flexible is your routing,
how much time do you have, you could probably lose a couple of days in each area
the 'hop' from peak district into Yorkshire can be a bit of a grind, you have to cross over the urban sprawl that sort of links Manchester and the godforsken wastelands of Yorkshire.

Good luck with all the traffic. I would seriously take in to consideration the fact alot of people will be staying in the country for their holidays. Some great roads up there but no fun with traffic.

'spose I better be a bit more helpful
I don't know the Peaks well enough to comment but I expect they'll be busy.
The Dales will be busy in the popular places but fine when you get to the Northern fringes
Cross the A66 into the North Pennines and there'll be very few places that I'd call busy, that photo was taken on a bank holiday Monday.
There's loads to go at so if you can be a bit more specific, I can point you in the right direction

Thanks for the replys, I haven't been specific because I'm open to suggestions. I could probably find eating places on the internet easy enough when I've decided on a route but the general route was set out in my original post which is head north from Oxfordshire then turn right to the North East of England after the Yorkshire Dales then follow the coast down and West back to Banbury. We will be leaving on a Thursday and returning on the Monday with the sat nav permanently set to twisty roads.
I'm looking for recommendations on must ride roads and places to get off and have a walk around for the views, such as castles, sea views, mountains etc.
Cheers

If I were to pick a route up through the the Northern Dales and North Pennines into Northumberland, with the focus on lack of crowds and scenery, it'd look something like this.
If you want a gpx file, drop me a pm with an email address.
Staring at Sedburgh
Others should be able to help with Northumberland

Greetings from sunny Norfolk.
Lincolnshire Wolds is an awesome playground, and you won’t believe the road surfaces.
Cross the Humber Bridge, then go and play in the Grimsby-Lincoln-Skegness Triangle..., and if you’re lucky, you’ll find a place called Caldwell Park...., mmmmmm!
Anyway, enjoy your trip, wherever you go, and let us know how you get on.
Cheers
Geoff
