How to switch off cruise control?
« on: July 01, 2020, 11:19:13 AM »
Hiya,

Pleased with my Tiger 800 xrx 2019!  One annoying issue, how to 'switch-off' the cruise control?

- braking ; nah  stupid way to do that, i do not want to brake riding at nice cruising speed
- use the clutch ; more stupid way of this issue....
- rotate gas to 'zero' ; ever tried this??  not a comfy way of disabling cruise control

Why does Triumph not has a push button (like all cars have) do to this ??

What i do now is ; a) rotate gas handle to the point where the bike wants to accelerate b) tap my foot brake shortly

How do other riders do this ?

cheers
Hans
Before on a GS550, GS750, GS1000, ST100 (x2), ST1300. Now on a TIGER 800 XRX
cheers

I use the clutch on my Tenere as its the smoothest way to disengage the CC.

A slight push on the rear brake will do the trick, but I'm using the forward throttle all the time, because
most of the time I'm going to be braking after that anyway.

Same here, dab rear brake and try to match throttle position to speed - unless Im slowing.
Find it of limited use on a bike since bikes need more input than cars. Mainly used when right hand needs a rest.

I either shut the throttle slightly or use the rear brake, sometimes the front brake. None of these methods bother me. I find it amazing that my bike even has cruise control. I do not use cruise control much though as I find it kind of scary like it is tempting to lose focus on impending dangers, same as I would not want to listen to music in my helmet while cruising down the road towards certain death!  I am one of those riders who still has chicken strips on his tires.

Thing is if you use the brake you are telling traffic around you that you are slowing down which may not be the case. Clutch method on my bike works with a little pressure so doesnt affect anything. Each to their own though.

Yes but I don't see the harm, people behind should be paying attention, on my XRT the clutch method is far too abrupt I prefer not to use it.

That is how I do it - I think :-)

With the throttle in the rest position, you can "close" it further against a spring stop and it disengages cruise control.  2.3mm?  Maybe 2.3 degrees.....

I just gently close the throttle usually,or just press the arm/disarm switch on my 2015,does  2019 bikes not have the arm button ?
