Face covering conundrum?
« on: July 18, 2020, 04:53:02 PM »
This applies to UK from 24th and already in Scotland where face coverings are required in shops.

If you stop for petrol:

1. do you take helmet off and done a mask

2. keep helmet on but pull up neck tube to cover mouth and nose

3. keep helmet on but with visor shut(slightly open to prevent misting)

4. find a pay at pump filling station

or something else!

Input from Scottish members would be useful.

Oh Matchbox, what have you done; youve re-started the, Why do I have to take my helmet off when filling up, debate.
Im going to go with leave helmet on, and stretch a Buff neck tube over it, then use sign language to get my message across to the person behind the Perspex screen...., should be interesting.
Oh, and the last reason I was given when told to remove my helmet, was so that they could verify my age before I filled up....., Im 66, and wear a Neotec, and always flip up at filling stations.
Good luck with your survey............!

But this one doesnt.

I go for pay at pump every time (lucky to have one on my doorstep) - don't even have to get off the bike !

I live in southwest scotland and did indeed wonder about this myself :084:
Certainly at my local independant station they said it was fine to keep my helmet on (though took a face mask just in case)
wouldn't like to go to a supermarket station unless I was using pay at the pump, certanly round here at least,  tesco make you take helmet off before resetting pump so I never go there     :182:

I think neck tube is a good option, though not if helmet is not flip front.

If touring finding pay at pump may be a problem.

In Australia you had to remove your helmet for two reasons one is to allow the security cameras to get a shot of your face in case you give a dodgy credit card for payment and the other is to stop people wearing motorcycle crash helmets during armed hold ups of gas stations.
Generally of you are wearing a flip front helmet with the front up they are okay with that.
Now that this mask wearing thing is becoming strongly encouraged (here) the reasons for taking a helmet off become slightly irrelevant.

It is actually illegal to sit on a motorcycle while filling it up here. They say it is a safety issue.
In parts of the country they also will not turn the pump on unless the driver gets out of the vehicle. That is to stop or at least discourage drive offs.
