New north Texas 900 GT
« on: September 12, 2020, 02:59:44 AM »
After 11 years of riding my 2009 V-Strom 650 ABS, it was time to get something new. I realized that the V-Strom was the best and the worst bike I could get at the time; the best because it does so many things well (and I had it dialed in perfectly for me) but also the worst because it does so many things well  :492:. It's difficult to justify breaking out of that kind of relationship. Rode it for almost 49,000 miles since it was new (and hopefully a guy buys it off me tomorrow).

So anyway, for a while now I have had a crush on the Tiger. I looked at the 1200 but it seemed like too much of a beast to me. When the 900 showed up, I thought this might be the middleweight that I have been looking for. I did a bunch of research and narrowed it down to a few bikes, but Tiger won for me.

Right now, it's a bone stock GT. Getting the center stand and the Expedition top case next week, and I am working on breaking it in. Just today I connected the TigerTool to it and it seems like I'll be able to reset that maintenance light when it pops up (I do most of the maintenance myself on all our cars and my bikes as a hobby).

I only put about 150 miles on it so far (plan to add that many tomorrow morning) but it seems like I'll need to add at least some pullback risers (if there is enough slack in all the cables) and do something about that windshield (I'd like it to be a bit higher, I'm 6'2'' and I feel like I get a bit too much wind on my helmet). I will spend some time on the stock seat but that might have to go also (but it needs to break in). But otherwise, I am really looking forward to learning about the bike and enjoying many great miles! I'm finding it hard to stay under 5K RPM LOL; it definitely has more pep than my V-Strom did!

Hello matey; watch out for a certain young man who goes by the name of Jimmy60, hes a well-known hooligan around your area, who has a habit of turning up on our shores as a regular MegaMeet attendee - In case you meet him, hes rather partial to a drop of JD.
Enjoy your new steed, and stay shinyside up.
