rear shocks tiger 900GT LRH
« on: September 16, 2020, 10:25:14 AM »
I am finding the rear shocks too harsh and the ride uncomfortable.Have set front and rear to the so called comfort settings according to the book but still an awful ride.I weigh140 lbs so wondering if the shocks are set for a higher minimum load ?
The dealer suggested it might be because its the low ride height version and the shocks are from the standard bike and therefore compressed more. Can anyone suggest a soloution, eg. re spring shock, change shock ( putting on body weight is'nt really an option ! ) ?
Thanks.

You're quite light so I would suggest Triumph's comfort setting is still too stiff for you. The factory low version has a different length shock - the dealer should know this.

I would suggest winding out the preload more. Make one adjustment at a time then ride. Keep going until you are happy.

Standard preload is zero, so not able to back off!
My rear shock was replaced after it lost all damping and preload adjuster seized.
I have found rear suspension has improved with mileage. Initially I was ready to have an aftermarket one fitted but now after nearly 3000mls it seems better. Less stiction or me getting more accustomed.

From memory factory preload is 22 clicks or similar out from zero - fully anticlockwise - NOT zero

Solo: Min
Rider and luggage: 17
Rider, pillion and luggage: 21

I would suggest you try Min(i.e. fully anti clockwise) Also put a marker on the knob to make it easier to count!

I was wrong on the direction.  Clicks measured from fully in (Clockwise)

Settings above though are nowhere in the manual I've just accessed on Triumph website.

Page 165

Solo 30 clicks
Rider & luggage 0 clicks
Rider, passenger & luggage 0 clicks.

Must check my old shock to see max number of clicks out available but I do think it's more than 30

The settings are different for non LRH and Rally. Not really very clear in the printed manual. Also there are differences/errors in the online manual. You will notice the page numbers are different.

BTW - nowhere does it mention clicks for REAR suspension.

Interestingly my printed manual settings are on page 143-144. my downloaded manual they are page 150!

Thanks for the input people. I'm coming up for 3k miles and have tried different settings but nothing improves it.
I have to accept it's what it is or talk to a specialist shock supplier for advice. I think I'll do the latter as it is a delight in all other areas and want to continue with it. Its disappointing that Triumph have not come up with the appropriate shock but have decided to squeeze in one from the taller version bike.
I'll post what I come up with.
Again my thanks.
