2013 Tiger 800 - Fuel hose
« on: September 29, 2020, 02:43:50 PM »
Hi All,

Going to do a service on my 2013 tiger 800 and on checking the triumph service sheet it states that the fuel feed hose from the tank should be changed every 4 years regardless.   No idea if it's been changed on mine at all so decided to order one as well as a few other parts for the service.

Parts arrived today, but no fuel hose.   Checked on the website (fowlers) and it's now saying the fuel hose (part T1240207) is no longer available and is an obselete part?

Anybody any idea if this has superceded by something else, or actually no longer available?  If the later I find it crazy that a part triumph state needs to be changed fairly regularly is now no longer available.   Are there any aftermarket alternatives?  I believe the hose is fairly standard stuff, it's just the connectors it uses which are the tricky bit.

Noticed a few parts are showing up as no longer available in the parts cataloque - seem to have become so pretty quickly?

- Ian.

Think I might have answered my own question.   :001:  Fuel feed pipe looks to have been superceeded by part T1240593.   No idea what the difference is...?  Other than being more expensive...   :003:

Have Tiger owners been replacing these regularly every 4 years? I am still using the first hose.  :430:

Well, on the service sheet it states "Fuel hoses - renew - every 4 years, regardless of mileage.".   Sure I saw a mention of hoses deteriorating over time, which is probably why they have this on the sheet.    May well be perfectly fine but considering I don't know if it has been changed I don't want to find out it needs changing when it starts leaking fuel.   :187:

And another train of thought is that if they are getting hard to get then may as well try and get one now for when I do need it.

Noticed that too a few months ago.
Kinda baulked at the price so decided not to bother.
If you have the tank off then worth checking condition of the hose for cracks/perishing.

I guess I will buy one and install it next time the tank is off or if it leaks, whichever comes first. Triumph's price is ridiculous for such a trivial part.

So where exactly are you guys seeing the requirement to replace the fuel hose every 4 years?. I have the full service manual (500 odd pages) for my 2011 XC and can find no mention of it. That doesn't mean that it's not there though  :084:

I have near 75,000 miles on my bike and I haven't replaced, or seen the need to replace, the fuel hose.

Service record checksheet Issue 18
Fuel system and engine management

"Fuel hoses - renew - every 4 years, regardless of mileage"

Like you say, no intention of replacing unless I see signs of deterioration.

However someone has said somewhere that insurance assessors can be rigorous.
If your bike should catch fire as a result of a leaking hose that was not replaced after 4 years - may not pay out.
What that part number?  :006:

Thanks @philmcglass. There's definitely not an entry in my service manual but it is much older than the service record checksheet you posted.

Anyway, I'm currently with my bike in Argentina (www.tiger800rtw.com) and there's virtually no chance of picking up a new fuel hose here. Maybe I'll pick one up next time I visit the UK, Covid permitting.
