Overly dramatic but my 15 year old AltBerg Clubman Roadster have finally worn through their waterproof membrane. To be fair Altberg said as much when I had them resoled recently. As boots go they were a great pair. They are now double the price of what I got them for in 2005!! I used probably a tin of their Leder Gris proofing a year on them.

I wore through the gear change pad several years ago and patched it with some old boot leather I had.

They will now be my standby boots.



Replacements arrived this morning - Revit Compass H2O. Very sturdy looking and feeling boots. Must wear them at lunchtime for a stomp around before the ride home.

the new ones are nice but I must admit that IMO none of the new kit can match the Altbergs for style and attitude :-)

Hi KildareMan,

Sorry to hear of the demise of your Altberg boots, I too have a pair which I purchased in 2005 and so far they are still going strong. They really are a super pair of boots but the current replacement cost is eye-watering.
I suppose the old adage is 'You get what you pay for' applies.

Strange how my feet felt as if in clown boots on 1st ride. 2nd ride more feel back. Just recalibrating my feet in the new boots.

Bought some new boots a month or so ago,adjusted the gear lever about 4 times before got used to them,and yes I think it's probably back where  it was,kept missing second from first,as boots are thicker

My All weather hoggs are in a similar state after 11 years of dail commuting.

I've replaced them with a pair of Sidi adventure, but quality wise they are not a patch on the Altbergs. If only Albterg could have given me a better delivery time than 12-24 weeks, best case   

next time I'm shopping I'll probably be going back to Altberg
