Replacement rear shock for 2015 Tiger 800 XRx
« on: December 16, 2020, 06:10:51 PM »
Hi all

Ive been busy trawling the forum looking for advice on what aftermarket rear shock units are available for my 19,300 mile roadie XRx model 2015 Tiger, but as I havent yet quite found what I was looking for, I thought Id throw the question out there!

I took my Tiger on a brilliant 2500 mile trip this summer with my 12-year-old son riding pillion, and (with some difficulty) adjusted the spring preload for the extra weight before we set off. Unfortunately, its been impossible to change back afterwards as the bolt is seized solid. I tried various tips from the forum to try to loosen it but to no avail.

Last night, I rode the bike to a locally-renowned suspension expert here in Devon and he tried every tool & trick before pronouncing it buggered. As the OEM shocks seem to be considered poor quality in the first place, I dont fancy replacing like-for-like, but Im struggling to find aftermarket options: plenty for the XCs, but it XRs

Nitron offer an NTR ADV R1 to fit for ~500, but other manufacturers like Hagon, Shock Factory and K-Tech dont seem to offer anything for the XRs

Can anyone recommend any other manufacturers for me to try?

I also plan to get blokey to strip down, clean and re-oil the front forks while hes at it to give them a new lease of life as the rebound on them is almost non-existent!

Any other top tips?!

Many thanks in advance...

Whilst Hagon do not list a shock for the 800 roadie on the website I would give them a ring and ask if they have one or can make one up for you.

Nitron is on my wish list ... when I can afford or OEM failure, whichever is the sooner.

But there is also Maxton, Wilbers, Hyperpro, YSS,  ... and Hagon as I've seen an XRX owner on here had one.  :028:
Also owned my 1979 Bonnie T140E from new!

I would definitely recommend Wilbers mate. Though any of the high quality shocks would be a good investment and would completely transform your ride. Get some front springs installed as well especially if you are doing lots of 2up work.

I'm sure any that you chose will be better than stock, I chose Maxton, they asked about usage and weight and supplied a shock to suit my personal needs, very pleased with it, been on 2 Tigers now..

Pretty sure I added some comments within the last year.
It's their non-remote adjustment shock and has really firmed up the back end.  Easy to fit. Lots of information from HyperPro on setup, which I followed, although it hardly needed any adjustment out of the box. Even though it's the non-remote adjusting the preload is simple with the included adjustment c spanner - loosen grub screw (hex key also included).
