Best Long Haul Seat
« on: December 24, 2020, 02:01:51 AM »
Hello to all and Merry Christmas,

I have had my 2018 Tiger 800XCA for 2 seasons and found that longer trips 3 to 5 hours of riding my butt turns into Jello. I have looked at a few options but Im wondering what others have done.

Thanks in Advance

I too am wanting help choosing an aftermarket seat for my 2019 xca.  I'm only ok on the stock seat for about an hour and a half before I need a break. So far I would only try a Sargent. The upside is it comes with a 30 day return, the down side for me is the heated version won't work with the stock controller.

Don't blame the seat, more like our butts through not riding enough. I ride a traillie through the bad winter times, after a few weeks of that skinny seat, the T8 is comfy bliss.
Current bikes Tiger800 XRx, Tiger Sport 1050, Ariel FH 650, Yam Serow 225.

The best upgrade I made, just before the initial lockdown, was to aquire a set of Sargent seats from a forum member and as a bonus the front one has heating fitted. This, as I posted, enabled me on lockdown easing to easily do 6-8hr rides with little break time. The original heated seats would have been probably 3-4hrs before increasingly standing and stretching on the pegs.
Coincidentally, as I haven't got around to wiring in the seperate heat controller I had decided yesterday to simply swop the seats back to the heated originals because my winter riding all tends to be short stuff, 2-3hrs tops and the original seat being slimmer will allow me better flat footing in the poorer road conditions. Then hopefully come May the Sargent seats will go back on ready for the long ride to the forum Megameet in Frankfurt.

I swapped my original seat with Touratech dito two years ago and never looked back. The longest journey so far done with this seat is 7000 km to Nordkap via Lofoten and back. Some days I was on the bike 4-5 hours in a row. No back problems. Only needed to stand on the pegs once an hour to stretch my body ( 191 cm and 100 kg).
The foam in the seat is much firmer than the original but still nice after several hours. The seat is also wider and flatter, not so much slope.
The lack of a Touratech seat for the new 900 is the only thing that prevents me from changing bike.

Past bikes from 1965: Husqvarna Silverpilen 175 cc, Honda 305 Super Hawk, Triumph Bonneville 650, BSA Spitfire 650, Norton 650 SS, Velocette Truxton, Honda 450 Black Bomber, Honda Transalp, Honda Africa Twin, BMW R100RT, BMW R1200 GS, Honda Varadero, Yamaha TDM900, Triumph 800 XCA

Thanks for the input,

I have to go with front and rear seat. As said if I need the heated seats I will swap the stockers out. Has anyone tried the Triumph accessory seat? Its not that expensive. Right now the Sargent is the front runner ..

The Sargent seats should (we are all different of course) prove an improvement in your riding hours but for even more additional comfort, or maybe an alternative solution with your current seat, for long journeys there is also the Airhawk air cushion.
In the post below you can see mine fitted and used on the standard seats and (although not required yet) checked for fit on the Sargent seat ... should I ever need to do 18hr non-stop days in the saddle.  :005: :008:

Has anyone tried to convert the male plugs on the sargent seat to the triumph heated seat plugs to make the sargent seat work with the stock triumph controller? That's the only thing stopping me from buying a sargent seat for my 2019 xca. The salesperson at sargent told me that the sargent heated seat will only work with the sargent controller.
