The threaded holes that the mounting bolts screw into come from the factory with plastic dust covers. These need to be removed (obviously) but the message you were being given above was that it’s easier to screw them out than pry them out, and there’s a few ways you can go about doing that. That’s all.
I’ve generally used the point of a blade to push it round or a small screwdriver. Making a slot as suggested would make a relatively easy job even easier.
