Tiger 900 GT, 6K miles service

I am getting close to 6000 miles service on my Tiger 900 and considering is it worth going to the dealer.
I can change oil filter myself. Besides that, it runs great and I do not see any problems. The service schedule in the
owners manual have bunch of "check this" and "check that" items. The only one I unsure of "Throttle bodies - balance".
I do not think I can do that myself.

Apart from whether it's worth it or not, if you want to maintain your warranty , be better getting it done at the dealer. Though, on the T800 they check the spark plugs on the 6k service which costs a lot in labour and not really worth it at only 6k..

Let the dealer do it, to retain the warranty and to retain it's resale value, a full main dealer history is a great asset come sale or part exchange time.

Worth getting the dealer to do it. Mines a RP but it had ECM and connectivity modules updated, plus the 30 amp fuse holder had a recall carried out.

I am not a lawyer/barrister but in the US manufacturers can't require you to use a dealer for service to maintain a warranty. Recalls are an area where you use a dealer but not routine maintenance. Save your receipts for any parts and supplies you or your mechanic use. I did use the dealer for the 12K mile service interval because I didn't have the skills to check the valves. I am lucky to have an excellent, honest dealer but they have to pay their bills so the fees are high.

If you are doing your own work I suggest that you acquire a Triumph service manual. It will pay for itself in no time. Good luck.

I can only comment on the legal situation here in Germany: with a Triumph bike you have statutory warranty rights and in addition to that the "voluntary guarantee" by Triumph. For that guarantee they have set up some provisions, mainly that you have the bike serviced according to the service plan, in case of the Tiger 900 it's every 16.000 kms or every year whatever happens first. According to our Federal Court of Justice they cannot ask you to have the bike serviced at a licensed Triumph dealer any other trained mechanic will do as long as he follows the service rules set up by Triumph. Honestly I stick to the Triumph dealer the first four years as I do not want the trouble with Triumph to proof that the bike was serviced properly. After that I do not bother.

That being so I guess you do lose the rights off the guarantee if you service the bike yourself unless you are a trained and specialised mechanic.

Yes, one should understand the regulations in their country before doing anything that would jeopardize the warranty.  Absolutely. I was just highlighting the situation in the US. Basically a manufacturer can't force the consumer to use a dealer if the consumer can demonstrate that the maintenance was performed correctly by a non-dealer or competent mechanic.

Regarding automobiles the classic case was the oil change. Does the consumer need to pay BMW $200 for an oil change when a good mechanic can charge 1/2 as much or less. My understanding is that your warranty can't be denied if you had the oil changed by a mechanic using approved materials.

In my Rally Pro documentation there seems to be some discrepancy about required servicing intervals. In my owners handbook it indicates every 10k km (6k miles) but in the maintenance log book where the workshop puts the stamp, date of service and the km at service, it says every 16k km. These discrepancies also appear in the posts above. The OP says service at 10K km(6000 miles) but the poster from Germany states 16k km (10k miles). Actually when buying the bike a selling point to me was that I had read that service intervals were every 16k km (which is like the explorer), but looking at the service maintenance table it seems that’s not true. Still it’s strange that the service log book shows 16k km service intervals. Is this just a mistake or is there some reason for this?

My Tiger 900GT has 6K miles intervals while my Thruxton 1200R has 10K miles intervals. When I asked the dealer why is that he told me that adventure
bikes require shorter intervals as they are likely to be ridden harder than street bikes. I think it is an oversimplification. After all Tiger and Thruxton have
totally different engineers and perhaps this has something to do with that.

I’m not lucky enough to have bought a new Tiger 900 YET. But, page 122 of the official owner’s handbook has a service interval table which shows that service intervals are at 6000 miles or 10000 km. See attached image of page 122.
