Chain issues

Hi All!

I was hoping to getting some information on a strange new issue I've had.
When lubing my chain I found that the top of the chain had been squared off.
By this I mean about half a millimetre had been taken off so the tops had straight edges.

Has anyone had this before? I think it could be the slider that protects the swing arm as its the only part that touches the chain.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you referring to the top of the top run or the top of the bottom run?

Initial thoughts ....
What is the bikes mileage.
How long have you had it.
When was it last fully serviced including chain rubbing strip renewal.

That aside my thoughts would be to closely inspect the chain rubbing strip. If this is seriously worn in the very front area where is goes around the front of the swing arm it is not unknown for the chain to wear through and grind grooves in the swing arm and this would grind/wear the inside of the chain.

I replaced mine at 12,000 miles. A little early as there was some wear left, but I had it on the shelf ready so thought I'd just do it. Kept the old one in case of damage to the rep[lacement.

Do they really wear out that often?
My tiger has just reached 60k on the clock and I bought her at about 50k.

But the question is clearly when was it last renewed. It may even be the original. AIUI from here the early Gen 1 doesn't appear to wear the original rubbing strip (it only has 1 dampener piece in it) as quick as the superseded (2 piece dampener) rubbing strip wears. As for wear (IMO) that clearly depends a lot on how well the chain tension has been kept though the Triumph service schedule calls for its renewal every 6k miles .... though most of us know that's overkill and use the 'visually inspect it' method.

You need really to inspect it as previously suggested.

Regarding the G2, be careful, because there are 2 references offered by Triumph according to the serial number of the motorcycle.

I am unable to give the reason for these 2 references which cannot be replaced. If anyone understands the explanation, it is welcome.

For my part, I remain with assumptions: modified swing arm, lateral position of the gearbox output pinions different. . .

AIUI no need to be carefull,  you can now only get the later rubbing strip, the Gen 1 version is obsolete and not available. The early one had a damper insert on the top and the later one has a damper insert on the top and bottom run. Why ... possibly to make it quieter? 
So if you have the earlier one you need to buy the complete kit with 2 damper inserts. If you have the later version you buy it without the inserts and simply swop them over.
