Hmm turns out it was the pesky regulator / rectifier, the garage are ordering one in.

As ever, my advice is get a genuine one, new or used, or a branded item like the Electrex. There are some very poor Chinese copies out there.

Thanks guys,  the garage replaced it and I quizzed them on not using cheap Chinese versions and they said they only source theirs from JMP in Germany,  so decent quality components... hopefully 🤞😀
Anyway bike working again,  I did my own multimeter readings and all good
