Missing part service

Hi my tiger 800 13 plate is due main 24000 mile service.
Well its sitting at 26000.  Its had previous serviced done fully. Shims etc.   As it's a big bill for big service has anyone bike actually went wrong if miss the shims check part and just do oil and filters.

It might be a big bill but it is a small amount compared to any engine work should a valve close up and burn out.

You say that the shims were done, presumably at around 12,000miles do you know what the gaps were and were any adjusted. If they were close to the limits at that service then some may need adjusting now.

Unless you look you will never know! My advice - better be safe than sorry.

If you've torn down far enough to replace the air filter, you are only a half hour from having completed a valve CHECK. If they check good, all is well. I have reused the valve cover gasket on my '12 800 many times. Wash the gasket with soap and water before reusing. Torque only to spec.

Yep done at 12000 but no idea of spec.
Never thought about reusing gasket. Not sure if I want open engine to do them tho. I'll see how lucky I feel.   Anyone know decent priced bike mechanic near Stirling lol

I've used RPM Motorcycles in Falkirk. Good bloke and much cheaper than dealership prices.

Mine needed doing at 12k and were within spec at 24k but as previous comments say, it's a potentially big gamble to not get them checked. Save in haste, repent at leisure and all that.
