Denali sound bomb mini horn question
« on: April 05, 2021, 09:25:16 AM »
Good morning all.
Ive ordered a Denali sound bomb mini horn for my T800 XRX 2015 (with beak).
Searching the forum has confused me a little. Its supposedly Designed to be a direct plug and play upgrade from your factory horn, requiring no additional relay or wiring harness.
But will it be, and will it locate in the same place?

Thanks in advance
Matt

Well, I have no personal knowledge of this product but if you click on the Features tab in the SportsBikeShop link you provided it lists what I assume are all the bikes it is compatible with.
The only Tiger listed there is the 1050 from 2007 & 2008.
But if its already on its way to you, SBS have a pretty good returns policy so you should be able to send it back if it doesnt look like it will fit or connect.

It will fit in the same place as the existing horn, with no additional relay or harness.  Just swap the leads from the original to Soundbomb Mini.

Mine was installed on a 2017 XRX with no beak, so I had to cut back some of the trim under the headlight.  You'll need to check what is under there to be sure.

With a beak, you can install it in the same place. Without a beak, you need to be more imaginative.

I was initially impressed with the Denali Mini - it was certainly more authoritative than the plaintive "meep" that the original horn gave out. However, it lasted less than two years, which I found quite unimpressive.

My bike has Heed bars and a beak and I could not get the Denali to fit in the location of the original horn even by disassembling half the bike and doing some creative bending of brackets. In the end I just put the original horn back into place and extended the wires and mounted the Denali on the left which is an ideal place when passing cyclists. removing the denali will simply be a case of plugging the wires back into the OEM  horn and removing one bolt.
BTW On my bike at least the Denali only works with the engine running. I guess it needs more oomph than the battery supplies.

Maybe something else?
Battery will supply the starter motor but not the horn..?  :187:

Fitted this morning, under the beak.

Unscientific (iPhone) dB readings:
Stock OE: 103.7 dB
SB Mini: 111.7 dB, fuller tone.

Overall, a good upgrade.

Matt :)
