First off - welcome. I've got both an 800 XCA and an FZ6 that I inherited but the 800 is the one I definitely enjoy riding. However, the 800 is higher maintenance and the valve clearance check for the FZ6 at 26k miles is a lot more attractive than the 12k miles required for the Triumph?

Yes! However, I'm quite sure the valves will still be within spec at 12k miles. In fact, I didn't make adjustments to my FZ6R's valves until 58,000 miles! In that case, seven of the sixteen valves were out of adjustment. Either way, 12k miles will be here sooner than later!
