Exhaust can clean up beneath the end cap?
« on: May 01, 2021, 01:20:03 PM »

I want to clean up the end of the exhaust can beneath the end cap as it's a bit rusty, any opinions on whether it would look better painted black (there are remnants of black paint above the outlet) or just cleaned back to bare metal?

Replace with a Scorpion can and save over 3kg and it'll all be shiny then. Otherwise clean up with a wire wheel and paint.

... something like black Hammerite Barbecue Paint available in aerosol cans. :027: ...... cheaper than a new end can :028:

Is the end of the exhaust made of mild steel or stainless? Obviously, if it is the latter then there are other options.

Thanks all for the replies and suggestions, I got a chance to work on it at the weekend. The 'paint' turned out to be soot and rubbed off quite easily, and a few minutes with wire wool and metal polish was all it took to remove the rust and tarnish.

Looks ok with the end cap back on so I'm calling it sorted at that
