Anyone tried different rears ?
« on: May 17, 2021, 10:01:35 PM »
This might be controversial, just wondering about stuff so don't get your panties all ruffled.

Like many I switched the front to 110/80 which feels massively better.

I measured rims and well I just got curious because from the front rim size, if they say a 110
is a validated size, with 110 tire the difference from the 84.5 of the rim is 25.5 without much
deformation so 23% larger than the rim.
Looking at the rear rim size it seems to me that a 160/60 would maybe be a better pair with
the 110, the rim measuring 129 with the 150 you get 21 so 14% larger than the rim, but the
160 then gets 31 so 19% larger closer to the front 23%, maybe matching the curvature better.

I would not go as far as to suggest a 170 deformation might be too much, so just wondering
also because funny thing is my Ducati bought a month ago has a different rear size and feels
great, so anyone tested something different on the rear ?

BTW I do not do off-road on this bike hence the question.

You might find that it feels as if the rear isn't turning in as well as with the standard size tyre. I went the opposite way with my T595, the rear felt as if it didn't want to turn in with the original tyre (a very wide one by the standards of 1998) and I went down to the same size as used on the Sprint ST/RS which felt a lot better.

Gone but not forgotten: Scrambler 900, Tiger 1050, Bonneville SE, Sprint ST 955i, Trophy 4, Sprint 900, Daytona 900, Tiger 900, Trident 900

Okay that's interesting, guess I'll stick to stock !

But going back to continental tires for certain these anakee adventure, do not behave that well after 10'000km.
