Morning from Liverpool
« on: June 28, 2021, 09:35:39 AM »
New to the 800 club after downsizing from a big Explorer 1200.
Picked my 2017 XCX up on Saturday from a dealer and I have to say it feels a revelation after the heavy weight 1200.
Loving the snappy 800 motor and confidence inspiring ,chuckable handling.
I took it down a local byway track that previously put the fear of god in me on the 1200 and found it a breeze on the new ride!!
However two jobs require urgent attention.
1   Touring screen....Cant hear the motor over probably 50mph.
2   Under 50 however...all I can hear is a really annoying low speed engine whine.I imagine this as some sort of alternator related noise and a bit if googling reveals stator related stuff.though I havent seen evidence of definitive fixes yet....

Yes I was a 1200 fan, still is but prefer the 900 lighter moving around garage and easier on the old bones, enjoy the bike have fun.   :031:

My 2017 XCA is exactly the same - the touring screen is not very good above 50 mph and the motor whines a lot. Never been sure what causes the whine but assume it is an intrinsic generator noise which you have to get used to.

The whine is from the primary gear I believe, it has a backlash gear on it that stops rattle, but introduces whine.

I found the Triumph tall screen with a cheapo ebay lip did a great job. I'm 6'2".
