Recommendation for tyers

(1/4) > >>

Eman:
My bike has just gone in for its MOT, mechanic suggesting new back tyre as itís only just legal and suggesting Michelin5s quoting a possible £500 for a set of tyres and fitting.  This is my first triumph, past bikes cost half of this and feeling a little twitchy about the quote, any advice/recommendation for tyres? Tiger 800 zrx low 2015.

Michelin road 5ís are very good tyres and work well on the 800. My rear wore quite quickly though.
The quote is high. £250-£300 for a set fitted is more realistic.

Eman:
Thanks, when you say that your back tyre wore quickly, how many thousand miles did you get out of it?

Just had a pair of Metzeler Roadtec 01 SE's fitted on Thursday, £282 ride in/out. That's on my 1050, went for them 'cos they're brill on my T800 XRx which have now done over 4k miles & now at 3mm/4.5mm f/r eg 1/3 worn. They start at approx 4mm/6mm f/r. I doubt that means they'll do 12k miles. I'd be happy with 8k.

Although about 2yrs ago my set of Michelin R5's cost about £240 fitted to loose wheels (I use Pro-Tyre/GupaP). Ride in Ride out extra £18 per wheel .... certainly no way in excess of £300. The rear (for me) lasted approx. 8k miles. Fantastic tyres and if you're not already aware from the hundreds of posts in the actual 'wheels and tyres' section then if not already changed, whatever tyre you pick, put a 110/80R-19 radial on the front and ditch the 100/90 Bias belted OEM fitted size, transforms the handling.
